The face of elder care in Canada is changing. Long-term healthcare for seniors is moving away from the traditional hospital-based model and towards a more diverse and resident-centered approach. It’s beginning to consider more than providing the basic necessities of life, and is emphasizing the individual needs of seniors with the core intention of making their lives as happy and enjoyable as possible.

That’s exactly what we do at Optimum Care. We look at each of our clients as unique individuals with unique desires. Our treatment plans incorporate a range of different services from personal support workers to vacation companions and nurses. Most importantly, our relationship starts with a two-way conversation about what our clients personally expect from their homecare provider.

We want to extend this conversation to the community. Whether you’re a caring son or daughter seeking the right healthcare option for your parents or you’re on the hunt for your own personal care, we know that there’s a lot to think about. Not only do you need to find the healthcare solution that’s right for you, but it’s also important to keep up-to-date on topics that affect the aging population, whether they’re based on nutrition, travel, mental health or anything in between.

That’s why we’ve created this resource. Over the next little while you’ll see this page filling with posts ranging from maintaining good oral health as you age to special ethical considerations of caring for seniors and the changing landscape of healthcare in Canada.

The staff at Optimum Care will regularly write about a new topic aimed at helping you in your healthcare journey. We will also feature guest posts from our special medical partners working in various specialties like mental health and Alzheimer’s, healthcare policy and family medicine (more on that later!).

First and foremost, we want this blog to answer any concerns you may have about seniors’ care, how to access the right services and the day-to-day affairs of caregiving. So please, reach out to us with your questions and queries and we’re happy to answer them!

Thanks for joining us here and we’re looking forward to exploring the ins and outs of seniors care with you. We are Optimum Care, and we are proud to care for your loved ones as you would.
